Kenyan Opposition Rejects Vote Results Showing Incumbent WinningBy
Kenyan opposition candidate Raila Odinga rejected preliminary results of Tuesday’s presidential election that show him trailing incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta, saying his coalition doesn’t know the source of the figures.
“They are posting results which we don’t know the source,” Odinga said of the electoral authorities in a televised address. “These results are fictitious, they are fake.”
Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission data early Wednesday shows that with more than half of the ballots from the vote counted, Kenyatta has 55.3 percent and Odinga 43.9 percent. The commission declined to immediately comment on Odinga’s allegations.
